Redfield Plugins

Here are two plugins from Redfield. Let me describe them briefly:

Redfield’s Craquelure allows photofinishers to apply a texture imprint onto their images of varying size, depth, rotation, and other properties. Craquelure has 12 basic texture templates from which photofinishers can apply an imprint of varying scale onto a part (using masks) or all of their image. In this regard Craquelure is similar to Flaming Pear’s Super Blade Pro with the notable difference that Super Blade Pro starts with 12 basic textures as well but allows users to import their own textures via a .bmp file. However, Craquelure provides a broader set of controls to apply those textures.

Redfield’s Jama 2000 plugin is very similar to Corel Paint Shop Pro’s Distortion Effects Ripple and Spiky Halo. However, the Jama 2000 plugin goes well beyond these with more control over size, deformation, angle, rotation of the effects. Also Jama 2000 shares with Craquelure a set of common controls for perspective, rotation, brightness, and saturation. Since the controls are in the same place and have the same settings its easy to pickup Jama 2000 usage if you have used Craquelues and some of the other Redfield plugins. Also, Like Caquelure, Jama 2000 has 12 templates for establishing its starting ripple or moire pattern. This plugin is especially useful when you want to apply a distortion as rich as Photoshop’s Liquidity but with an overall pattern rather than Liquidity’s freeform deformations.

In general I find both Redfield plugins highly useful in 2 situations: 1)when I want to take a familiar images and provide a new viewpoint like a jazz riff in music and 2)both plugins work very well in collages or window/doorway shots where walking into the unexpected is vital to the image and expression. But even more fascinating to readers maybe the fact that one of these plugins is free, the other sell as part of a packet for just over $50. Anticipate a full review on thePhotoFinishes.com
