New Sony Video Sensor Deliver 6Mpixels

Sony announced this week a new video image sensor that does the following:
1)takes images at 60 frames per second
2)and at 2921Horizontal pixels by 2184Vertical pixels = 6.4Mpixels
3)and can seamlessly take still images at this full resolution
4)and performs at high speed plus alternate resolution versus speed settings.
Go to the Sony site here for the full details of the new sensor.
As one can see from the announcement, Sony engineers see this as a breakthrough sensor that will make full movie or still camera images at 6Mpixels with high resolution and strong color fidelity now able to capture high motion images with unprecedented detail.

This puts in place the first of what will likely be a range of chips that will bring convergence of still and digital cameras. 6Mpixels will easily satisfy both HDTV and up to the 8×10 inch high resolution still image markets. As we predicted less than a month ago – convergence of still and video cameras now has the basic image sensor to drive the market.
