Photoshop CS3 Extended

Adobe has finally entered the high end 3D and video rendering market with the new Photoshop CS3 Extended product. Call it PS3x for short. This product will have:
– all the features of the new Photoshop CS3.
– render and incorporate 3D images into your 2D composites.
– edit motion graphics on video layers.
– probes for precise measuring, analysis visualization of images.

Except for Atmosphere , Adobe has left the 3D space alone allowing players like Alias, Soft Image, and Discreet among others to dominate the market. Photoshop files are often used as backgrounds, surface fills, or snapshot formatters for 3D apps. But that has largely been the extent of Adobe presence in the 3D space.

On the Video side, Adobe Premiere Pro and Elements are popular applications and Macromedia bring the whole Flash suite of products to video and animation. So Adobe is not new to the market and is a major presence whenever high quality 2D images are needed in the 3D world.

But now that Autodesk has bought both Discreet and Alias, Adobe apparently now sees high end opportunity for its Photoshop franchise. On March 27, 2007 Photoshop users will get to see just how far and well Adobe has “Extended” its Photoshop franchise.
